Lane 8 Live @Showbox Sodo 2/21/20

Showbox Sodo is a great venue for electronic larger shows like this. Easy location to get to in Seattle with a small dive bar across the street to pre game before shows. This specific show had a line about a block long from the many people who wanted to see it. I was invited to this last minute from a very good friend of mine who had an extra ticket. Now I wasn’t actually familiar with the DJ but seeing how packed it was made me realize how popular Lane 8 is. When I arrived to the entrance the security wrapped our phones around the camera because video and pictures were prohibited which was a first at that venue for me. The electronic music felt techno-esq or I think maybe they call it “trance” for it’s category. As I said I am not too familiar with this DJ or electronic music in general but I liked the show. Good laser light show backed up by good rhythm in the sounds. I snuck this photo just to make sure I can have at least one picture. As you can see in this picture a bunch of balloons fell from the ceiling during the show. I just imagined them popping and glad I wasn’t on the main floor near them. It’s odd how gun fire and other loud noises don’t bother me one bit but the unpredictability of a balloon popping always annoys me. Anyway, great show and worth the time with my best bud there.

Nahko & Medicine for the People Live @Showbox Sodo 11/21/19

I always have liked Showbox Sodo with it’s large open floor plan and great sound quality. You can pre-reserve seating when you buy tickets in advanced under the “emerald Package” otherwise it’s all standing room only. Nahko is a mixed/Native American artist who is a cross between some hip-hop / reggae with a hint of rock music. He has some deep songs with important messages. I noticed he doesn’t have the mohawk anymore which is too bad. He sounded great and had a very cool entrance on stage with segments for each band mate to play their instruments as openers. He did an encore at the end and this show was a good mix of old and newer songs of his. Second time seeing him and well worth the ticket.

TroyBoi Live @Showbox Sodo 11/14/19

The was one of my first times seeing a show like this. I was at a Kaskade show some yrs ago that had electronic dance music but I still feel like this was more a first for a show like this. Showbox Sodo is perfect for EDM style shows as it’s a big venue but not overly huge with plenty of area to get up front. I never heard of this guy but went with a crew of friends all in light-up glasses so we could find each other if we got lost in the crowd. (I was the only one to still have my glasses on/working and intact by the end of the night). What was cool about this TroyBoi artist was that he had a hip-hop influence on his music so even though you had sections on a loop of hip-hop noises it was blended into dance music in a really artistic way. I was also happy with the crowd because everyone was so nice. I usually go to hip-hop/rap shows and when you bump into people or step on shoes it could be your face that pays the price. At this show we bumped into many folks in the mosh pit as we walked through the crowd like the movie “belly” when they walked into the nightclub with glow-in-the dark contacts. Meaning we walked through everyone as a unit of light-up faces that even EDM heads had to look and stare. I am very certain about 90% of the folks were on some type of drugs there to produce such care-free joy but if you are drinking alcohol you are on a drug too technically. Either way it was a fun show and I would do EDM shows again as well as see this artist again. We ran into him at Trinity Nightclub after the show and exchanged a few chats about the show. I was surprised to hear a UK accent but equally impressed of how humble TroyBoi was and thankful that I tried a new type of music genre to attend.

Yelawolf Live @Showbox Sodo 10/16/19

Showbox is a great venue, most people like Showbox Market better which I agree but Sodo has it’s perks. Large area very open and easy to see the show. VIP upgrade gets you reserved seating with good views and waitress to bring your drinks & food. This was my first time seeing Yelawolf live for his Ghetto Cowboy Tour and he mentioned in his show having history with Seattle taking a bus up here back in the day for gig during the winter. His DJ was setup with a full size Chevrolet caprice classic trunk and rear end with working lights and trunk that opened up releasing mystical smoke. Very cool. Yelawolf came in with a strong entrance and was very energetic. Sporting his flannel shirt with large hat belting out lyrics like a hood-style hill billy straight out of a double wide in some swampy corner. Songs like “Daddy’s Lambo” he still delivered the song genuine even despite the fact he might be able to afford a Lambo now after his years in the business. He fired the lyrics out like he was still in aww of rich people with that “white bread” haha. I didn’t really have one negative thing to say about the show and when he was done there was no encore which I appreciated because it was lights out show was over. His sound is like an old rusty nail behind a bunch of tattoo’ed white boys off-roading trucks in the mud yet you know they are all strapped and down to get gangster. His style is more about hip hop with a hint of some rock that makes you feel the Kid Rock Vibe but much more hip hop esq. Fun artist and great show check him out.

Ja Rule & Ashanti Live @Showbox Sodo 2/18/19

The only blurry picture I have from this show at the Showbox Sodo. This venue is easy to get to downtown and is a large warehouse style venue with bar located in very front and to the north wall. You can pay extra for seating and designated waiter attached to the seat upgrade otherwise open room standing only. Which means get there kind of early to have a good spot or fight your way to the front near the stage. I enjoyed the show they are a classic duo with classics we all remember. I didn’t feel any negatives from the show and would consider seeing them again if at a venue likes this.

Machine Gun Kelly Live @Showbox Sodo 6/25/19

First time I seen this guy was at the AVN awards in Vegas some years ago and never had heard of him. It was a quick 1 or 2 song intermission show and I was hammered so didn’t remember too much of it. Then I heard the song “Till I Die” and I was like this guy is cool. Then the whack ass Eminem beef starts and I thought…who is this slim shady guy think he is? Some type of dope relic from a mystical fake past he dreamed of? Eminem has never ever had play in my cars and he is a great lyricist who can think of witty little rhymes about his mom and living in a trailer park but BITCH , MGK is FROM THE LAND! Plus I just really think MGK’s long arms would knock the EBT card out of trailer park boi M&M. Anyway, back to the show. Showbox Sodo isn’t as good as Market but still a good venue and large open good sound quality. You can pay extra for the VIP section and have reserved seating with a dedicated waitress. He had a solid entrance rising up behind the stage in a tan khaki suit which he went shirtless halfway through the show. This was a great mix of Rock and Rap /some alternative that reminds me of Aerosmith and Run DMC when they did their collaboration “walk this way” back then. He even went up & played the drums, tore it up then hopped on the guitar while doing lead vocals proving this guy has talent. This was his very first sold-out show and he thanked the crowd a few times for it thus Seattle, WA showing their support. He even said he did a show with about 3 rows of people before and now it was filled and thanked us. MGK coming straight out of Cleveland tattoo’ed everywhere sporting died hair you can tell his is an individual just being himself. We use to think people of color were the only ones representing the hood but MGK says in his lyrics “in the hood hes good, till he dies” and the Showbox crowd went crazy for him. Also here to let you know people with lighter shades of skin have been out here in the hood so throw your stereotypes in a sack. Towards the end he did the song 27 which is a deep song about dying young but dying a legend, great track. He climbed on the rafter at one point so someone could throw him a joint. This guy is a real entertainer and if you on that Eminem shit remember MGK has that reach and will physically beat him up so stop listening to a guy that will lose to the opposing artist in a fist fight. Haha JK M&M alright. Check MGK when you can he is worth the money to see.

Laura Pergolizzi ” LP ” Live @Showbox Sodo 4/22/19

I was invited to this show last minute -day of the show and what sparked my interest was that a friend sent a youtube clip of her. Now when you first glance you might not even know it’s a “her” dressed in an Aerosmith-style attire which she resembles the character Caleb Jones in the movie “War on Everyone” but that’s besides the point. LP is a real deal Rockstar with an amazing stage presence. I felt the entrance she made was well built up. It was all dark with all the band mates in position preparing with a slow drum beat them bam, she enters the stage and moves right into “Dreamweaver” belting the lyrics out loudly. Meanwhile in the crowd was the largest convention of seemingly not straight women dancing around like Woodstock 1969. LP has this technique of whistling into songs while giving herself brief solo whistle moments that you wouldn’t believe how musical they can be. She is so talented and gives so much into her music with her unique voice that carries throughout with this low-mid-high pitch chant in and out of her lyrics. Showbox Sodo was a great venue to house her voice which is that of a larger warehouse style venue located in the Sodo District of Seattle. I would for sure check out this artist again wherever she is performing.

Tech N9ne Live @Showbox Sodo 4/19/19

Showbox Sodo is a great venue because even though it’s just a big square warehouse the sound quality is usually good, location easy to get to in Sodo district of Seattle and lots of top artists perform here. Tech9 had some openers before this show that didn’t peak my interest at all which rap shows are really hit or miss for openers but Tech9 himself did a great job live. I did however feel like his vocals were not as loud as they should have been but maybe due to their sound check or who knows. Either way was still worth it to see. you can reserve VIP seating here which will give you seating to the north side of the venue with waitress assigned to the area. Decent show.

Ghostland Observatory 5/14/2011

Showbox Sodo held this pile of awesome known as GLO which is a mix of electronic dance music sprinkled with some rock. The lead singer is this cool Native American dude with braids who has some good dance moves. They are a two man show with one singer and the other guy on the synthesizer who wears a gnarly cape while he makes music. They usually do a laser show during concerts giving you the ultra experience. They do not do any music videos, have no management whatsoever and the only way to see these guys is live. True live music performers that cut out all the bullshit and just play shows. They have described their own music as a robot making love to a tree, haha makes sense. Check them out and watch for the dance moves this guy tears rug.

YG Live @Showbox Sodo 8/10/18

A

Sneaky Squirrel show that I was told about last minute. They had a car show going on inside of the music show with classics and lowriders from people I cruise with out on display. YG was also promoting his clothing line of YG400 during the show. I wasn’t too familiar with his songs but he did his thing on stage seemed confident and comfortable up there. Showbox Sodo is a great venue in Seattle that is a huge warehouse that had plenty of room to house all of the classic cars inside during his show. I still don’t know much YG songs but I see he rides red and nothing wrong with that.
